The word “ministry” comes from a Greek word which means “to serve.” Ministry is therefore about service; service to God, through worship, and service to one another through teaching, edifying, and prayer. Here at Lebanon we have a variety of ministries and are always looking for new ways to serve our community for the gospel of Christ. As the dynamics of culture change so does the number of ministry opportunities.
The ministry of Jesus was initially one of preaching the good news about the Kingdom of God, of teaching, of healing, and of prayer. Such a ministry required the dedicating of His whole life to God and culminated with the offering of His body as a reconciling sacrifice. Upon His death the whole Christian community continued Jesus’ ministry of reconciliation. Likewise, we seek to pattern our lives after the life of Christ.
Sunday morning Worship 11am
At Lebanon Baptist Church, we believe that our worship should be shaped by the Gospel, since our relationship with God is shaped by the Gospel. Because of this, we use a gospel-contoured liturgy for our worship. Below, you will find how we structure our services:
Call to Worship
We are reminded that our worship and our relationship with God is God-initiated. He calls us, and we respond.
Adoration
When God calls us to worship Him, we begin in adoration. In order to rightly worship God, we have to have a right view of Him; then, seeing God as He is leads us to adore and praise Him.
Confession
Seeing God as he is leads us to see how much and how often we fall short. We bring our sins before God, knowing that nothing is hidden from his sight and that sin cannot abide in God’s presence. Our confession can also include lament, as we consider the effects of sin on our world.
Assurance
When we see our own sin, we find comfort in the assurance that Jesus gives to His people—that their sins have been paid for. Though sin separates us from God, Jesus has removed that separation by paying the penalty for our sin.
Thanksgiving
Seeing the forgiveness that Jesus bought through his life, death, and resurrection leads us to rejoice and be thankful that we have been reconciled with God. During our time of thanksgiving, we also give back to the Lord financially out of thankfulness for all that He has done for us.
Illumination
Thanksgiving then leads us to seek God’s will for our lives. Our obedience of God’s commands is an overflow of the joy and thankfulness that comes from His redemption. During this time, we ask that God would open our hearts and minds to understand, internalize, and apply His word to our lives.
Instruction
During the time of instruction, we seek to center our lives on Jesus Christ and live in the design that God has created us for. We also seek to see Jesus Christ and the Gospel more clearly from the Bible.
The Lord’s Supper
Monthly, we celebrate the gospel through symbol. The Lord’s Supper reminds us of the body and blood of Jesus that he gave for the life of the world. Only believers should partake of the Lord’s Supper; those who are not believers are in need of salvation and Jesus Christ himself, not a symbol.
Response
When we see the Gospel and hear instruction from God’s word, we then respond by dedicating ourselves to living Gospel-centered lives.
Benediction
As we dedicate ourselves to living for the Gospel, we are reminded that God will aid and empower us to live in the way He has called us.
